Record 133 COVID-19 cases in Kerala on Sunday; 93 test negative


This is the highest ever cases reported within 24 hours in the state and it is for the third consecutive day that the state is reporting a record number of cases in a single day.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 133 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in an official press release. Meanwhile, 93 patients have recovered from the disease.

This is the highest ever cases reported within 24 hours in the state and it is for the third consecutive day that the state is reporting a record number of cases in a single day.

Out of the 133 cases today, Thrissur has the highest number of cases with 16. There are 15 new cases in Palakkad, 13 in Kollam, 11 in Idukki, 10 each in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur, 9 in Thiruvananthapuram, 8 in Pathanamthitta, 6 in Kasaragod, 5 in Ernakulam.

Out of the 133 people who tested positive today, 80 people returned from abroad (Kuwait – 35, Saudi Arabia – 18, UAE – 13, Bahrain – 5, Oman – 5, Qatar – 2, Egypt – 1, Djibouti – 1). Meanwhile, 43 people came from other states (Tamil Nadu – 17, Maharashtra – 16, Delhi – 3, Gujarat – 2, West Bengal – 2, Uttar Pradesh – 2, Haryana – 1).

Nine people contracted the disease through contact (3 each in Idukki and Thrissur, 2 in Palakkad and 1 in Ernakulam). One healthcare worker in Idukki has also been infected.

Out of the 93 persons who tested negative, 37 are from Thrissur, 30 are from Malappuram (including 1 Thrissur native and 1 Pathanamthitta native), 9 are from Alappuzha, 5 are from Kozhikode (including 1 Kannur native), 4 are from Pathanamthitta (including 1 Alappuzha native), 3 are from Kottayam, 2 each are from Kannur and Kasaragod and 1 is from Palakkad.

1,490 people are currently undergoing the treatment in the state while 1,659 recovered. 1,43,969 are under observation in the state out of which 1,41,919 are in home/institutional quarantine while 2,050 are in hospitals. 325 were admitted to hospitals on Sunday.

As many as 5,239 samples were tested on Sunday. As of today, 1,37,475 samples have been sent for testing. Results of 3,460 samples are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance, 38,146 samples were collected till Sunday. Out of this, 36,751 came out negative.
