RDO court theft: Former senior superintendent in charge of locker booked

Thiruvananthapuram: A former collectorate employee has been booked for theft of preserved stolen articles (mainour) from the Thiruvananthapuram RDO locker. It was found that the retired senior superintendent Sreekandan Nair misappropriated the mainour comprising gold, silver and cash. He was arrested from his residence in Peroorkada.

The police have been continuing the probe for the last one month. Though several officers were kept under surveillance, the investigation finally reached at Sreekandan Nair, who was the custodian of the locker.

Sub collector Madhavikutty had submitted a report demanding legal action against the retired officer. He had stolen 110 sovereigns of gold, 140 grams of silver and Rs 47,000 preserved in the RDO court.

Sreekandan Nair had sold out a few jewellery while pledging certain other stolen gold and hence, police have initiated attempts to recover this lost gold.
