The quantity of kerosene supplied to ration shops was limited by 30 percent recently. As the transportation charges to bring the stock from depot also increased, the ration dealers refuse to bring the available share.

Palakkad: Kerosene distribution for blue and white ration cardholders who belong to non-priority category has been stopped temporarily. The ration shops were granted only 30 percent of the kerosene for priority categories in December. So, the shop owners refuse to take this kerosene for sales and this totally affected the sales.

The electrified households get half a litre of kerosene and non-electrified households get 4 litres per month. Currently, the share of non-priority category was limited to half a litre once in two months. The non-priority cardholders get kerosene that remains after distribution to the priority consumers. In December, they did not get even this share.

The kerosene for non-subsidy rate allotted by the Centre is stocked in the state. This can be used to meet the demand during festival seasons. Though this stock is sufficient for the distributing half a litre of kerosene for Christmas, the Civil Supplies Department has not taken any action, said the merchants.

The central government is of the stand that they can provide the expensive kerosene in required quantity for the states. The subsidised kerosene is available at ration shops for Rs 29.70 per litre and non-subsidised is given for Rs 30 per litre.
