Palakkad: One of the most remarkable festivals of Kerala, Kalpathy Ratholsavam, commenced on Monday at around 9.30 am by bestowing a new vigour to the annual celebrations of the first heritage village of the state. The idols from the temples of Kalpathy were installed on the chariots and the procession kicked off in the evening.
The parade of three huge chariots carrying Lord Shiva, Ganapathy and Subramanya began on the first day of the ten-day long festival. Another chariot from the Manthakkara Maha Ganapathy temple in New Kalpathy will also join others on Tuesday. It will be a magnificent sight to behold the convergence of the processions of all the four chariots on the third day of the festival.
The rituals of ‘Thirukalyanam’ carried out on Monday by ending the continuous recitation of Upanishad and Veda in Kalpathy. Later, the chariots were moved to the eastern entrance by the devotees and tusker Puthupally Arjunan to commence the procession.
