Inebriated man cuts own neck when confronted by police for rash riding

Thamarassery: A youth tried to cut his own neck using a blade when police stopped him for rash riding. The incident happened at Chungam Thamarassery junction on Tuesday evening.

Nerookumchal native Puthalath Abdusalam (43) was drunk when he recklessly rode a bike through Thamarassery road. On receiving information about the rash riding, Thamarassery traffic SI P Salim carried out a quick inspection and stopped Abdusalam near the Civil Supplies office at Chungam junction.

Police seized the bike and wanted him to bring someone to get the vehicle back. On hearing this, Abdusalam went to a nearby shop and bought two blades. He returned to the police and cut his own neck in front of them.

Police rushed Abdusalam to the Govt Taluk hospital. When he was questioned on why he slit his neck, he answered that mental stress prompted him to do so.
