Rapid PCR, RT-PCR tests: Kerala charges least; know the rates of major airports
Kozhikode: Kerala charges the lowest amount for the Rapid PCR tests at the airports in India. At Nedumbassery and Karippur airports, the test costs Rs 2,490. The highest amount is reported at Mumbai airport of Rs 4,500.
Rapid PCR test results will be available in 30 minutes to 1 hour. Due to the rush, airports like Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, takes up to three hours, some passengers said on social media.
RT-PCR costs Rs 700 in Chennai and Rs 600 in Mumbai. All other major airports charge Rs 500 for the standard test that may take up to 5-8 hours to get the results. These timings hopefully will improve once the process finds its track. The new rules say all passengers from high-risk countries must test at the airport due to the threat of the Omicron variant. The new rule caused chaos at Bengaluru airport on Wednesday.
CIAL has ramped up the testing capacity. It can now test 350 RT-PCR and an equal number of Rapid PCR tests in an hour. Two per cent of the international passengers from non-high-risk countries are tested randomly. Passengers are charged for random tests as well.
Mandatory quarantine for one week for passengers from high-risk countries is also in place in all airports. They will not be allowed to go out of the airport till the results are out. Even if it is negative, one-week quarantine is a must. It is followed by another test. Maharashtra tests on the second, fourth and seventh days of the quarantine.
