Rain with lightning strike predicted; yellow alert in 9 districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The meteorological department has predicted heavy rain with lightning strike for five days in Kerala. An yellow alert has been sounded in nine districts on Wednesday in view of heavy rain. It is expected that the northeast monsoon will arrive in three days. Widespread rainfall will occur for few days.
Yellow alert is issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Wednesday. Yellow alert is also sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Wayanad districts on Thursday.
As gusty wind with a speed of 65 kmph is predicted, fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts.
Director of Meteorological Centre S Santhosh said that the weather conditions are favourable for the northeast monsoon. Southwest monsoon will retreat in a day. The northeast monsoon is expected to arrive within 48 hours after that.
