Rain to intensify by noon due to low pressure; Chief Secretary calls meeting
Thiruvananthapuram: Intense downpour is likely in the afternoon in the districts where bypoll is being held, said Disaster Management Authority member secretary Sekhar Kuriakose. He added that the heavy rain in the morning was a result of the low pressure, but no critical situation is prevailing.
At present, an orange alert is sounded in four districts where byelection is progressing. As heavy rain continues across the state, the situation will be assessed under the leadership of chief secretary in the afternoon.
Extremely heavy rainfall is being experienced in the districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam. Waterlogging in Kochi has affected traffic. As railway tracks in South railway station are under water, rail traffic on this route has been affected.
Ernakulam-Alappuzha passenger train was cancelled. Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Mangala Express (12617) is delayed for two hours and will start at 1 pm from Ernakulam.
