Mullaperiyar Dam: Water level at 141.95 feet, TN opens 9 spillway shutters

Kumily: As the water level in Mullaperiyar dam is inching towards 142 feet - the Supreme Court prescribed capacity - Tamil Nadu has opened nine spillway shutters. At present, the water level is at 141.95 feet and TN already started releasing the water to Periyar river considering the probability of rains in the catchment areas.

7,341 cumecs of water is being released from the dam. The water flow towards the dam became 5,500 cubic feet by Sunday 5PM and nine shutters were open by 90 cm. Notably, TN earlier raised more shutters when water level reached 142 feet.

The dwellers in Periyar river region has been alerted as more amount is being released. Meanwhile, TN is channelizing 1867 cubic feet of water. If the rain intensifies, more shutters will be opened, informed TN.
