Rain subsides: Kottayam, Alappuzha remain flooded
Alappuzha: Though rain declined in most parts of Kerala, people in Alappuzha and Kottayam have no respite from waterlogging. Around 40,000 people are still at various rehabilitation centres in both the districts.
The situation is even worse at rehabilitation centres due to non-availability of drinking water and household necessities.
Following reports on the situation, the Collectors of the concerned districts said immediate measures will be taken to provide drinking water. If situation demands, Navy will be hired for help, added the officials.
According to sources, the lives of around six lakh people in Alappuzha district with three and a half lakh people from Kuttanad alone, were affected badly.
The Maveli stores in Alappuzha reported shortage of necessary household items. The electricity is still not reinstated in many places.
The road traffic on the Alappuzha-Changanassery road was disrupted for the seventh day. The people in Kuttanad were the most affected.
Rain havoc is severe in Kumarakom and Thiruvarppu areas in Kottayam district. With rain slowly gaining momentum on Sunday, the anxiety prevails among the people in Kottayam district.
