Rain havoc: Govt failed to provide relief, says Chennithala
Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said Monday that the State government has failed completely in dealing with the devastation caused by the monsoon rains.
Pointing out that the construction of check-dams at Karinchola hills was the reason for the landslide, Chennithala asked "who gave permission to construct the check dam?"
He was speaking after the Opposition held a protest in the Assembly over the issue.
"The reason for the disaster in Kozhikode district is the construction of illegal check dams. A landslip occurred near the water theme park of PV Anwar MLA. A stop memo was issued for the water them park only after the media reported the incident. The Revenue Minister has not responded to the incident. The government has adopted a stand that protects PV Anwar MLA,” Chennithala said.
He said that the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has become a disaster.
The force did not provide timely relief. It took four hours for the team to reach Kozhikode from Thrissur. Tee Chief Minister did not visit the place. This shows the government's apathy on the issue, Chennithala said.
