Heavy rain unlikely in Kerala on Wednesday, Thursday; orange alert in 3 districts only


Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall today. The yellow alert has been renewed in eight districts today. No rain warning in Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

Thiruvananthapuram: The heavy rain alert in the state on Wednesday and Thursday has been changed. Orange alert is sounded in only three districts on Wednesday. Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted rain in 11 districts.

Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday. The yellow alert has been issued in eight districts. No rain warning is given for Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

The orange alert announced in 12 districts on Thursday has also been withdrawn. A yellow alert is issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Malappuram districts. The Meteorological department has forecast no heavy rains in any district on Thursday.

The IMD had warned of heavy rains in the southern states, including Kerala, for two to three days from October 20 and very heavy rains in the hilly districts due to the impact of eastern winds. Earlier, alerts were issued accordingly. In anticipation of this, the water in the dams was released in controlled quantities.
