Thiruvananthapuram: In spite of the train services resuming after the pandemic induced lockdown, Railways has not restored the ladies compartments in the trains leaving many regular passengers under distress. Prior to the spread of Covid 19, all the unreserved train services had ladies compartments. Although, only the services including Venad, Intercity and Vanchinadu have ladies compartments currently.

Ladies compartments are not restored in the long distance services of Netravati, Sabari, Parasuram, Chennai Mail, Malabar, Maveli and Island Express. Though there are general compartments, they are always tight packed. The Railways has refused to give ears to the complaints lodged by the passengers regarding this.

The passengers are also troubled by the reluctance of Railways to resume the services of many passenger trains. The passengers’ union- Friends on Rails- had requested to restore the services of Kollam- Kottayam and Kochuveli- Nagercoil passengers along with Kollam- Ernakulam MEMU service soon.
