Raid in CPM office was for publicity; repeats Kodiyeri
Kannur: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan came down heavily on former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chaitra Teresa John for raiding the CPM district committee office in Kannur. He alleged that her move was a cheap publicity stunt and the officers shouldn’t try to be above the government. Otherwise, police should have nabbed at least one accused from the office. But they couldn’t. It proved the motivation behind the search.
Any officer should act only according to law. The government didn’t support her because, she wasn’t one of them. If it was a legal raid, they should have raided the BJP offices when law breakers hid inside there. Moreover, she wasn’t given the responsibility of the case related to that. She was temporarily appointed there. Thus, by undertaking raid, she did what she wasn’t supposed to do, Kodiyeri said.
Then DCP Chaitra Teresa John last week searched the district office of CPM office here in connection with a stone throwing case at a police station in which youth cadres of the Left party were involved.
She had raided the office on a tip-off that those involved were in the CPM district office. However, she could not find anyone there.
Soon after the search operation, CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who also holds the Home portfolio, summoned Teresa. She was removed from additional charge of Thiruvananthapuram DCP.
It is learnt that the government is moving to take disciplinary action again based on the complaints from CPM. But, departmental report submitted to DGP said only that she could have exercised more caution in the matter.
