Thiruvananthapuram: The Youth Congress (YC) on Friday night protested against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as MP and clashed with the police in Thiruvananthapuram who used water cannons to disperse them. The cops also lathi-charged the protestors when they tried to jump over the barricades, said reports.
The clash erupted in front of Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Kerala governor. According to YC, the police attacked them without any provocation. They attributed the police’s alleged high-handedness to the nexus between the Pinarayi Vijayan regime and the Narendra Modi regime. They also accused CPM-led Vijayan’s double standards as the alleged attack happened despite the party’s open support for Rahul Gandhi against the Modi regime’s vindictive politics.
Initial reports suggest nearly 10 YC workers were injured. KSU workers also faced the heat, added reports.
Meanwhile, Congress workers across various parts of the country have been protesting against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as MP. In some parts, protests turned violent and police took countermeasures.
