Kottayam: Radhika Vemula -- the mother of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula who ended his life protesting discrimination by University of Hyderabad officials in 2016, has expressed solidarity with students in their ongoing protest at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA) in Kottayam.

Radhika Vemula said she would join the protest venue soon. She made the remarks while attending an event held at Hyderabad University on the other day. She said that protesting students in the institute for her are like Rohit.

Meanwhile, the protest in the institute continues as the state government is yet to take any action over the matter. Earlier, a two-member committee studied the issue and submitted a report to Chief Minister. However, the government only made an effort to close down the college.

The students of KRNNIVSA have accused institute director Shankar Mohan and his wife of caste discrimination. The institute's chairman Adoor is accused of protecting them. The protest has been going on for months. It has received massive support from outside.
