Rabies infection confirmed in stray dog that attacked 7 in Kottayam

Kottayam: A stray dog that attacked several people at Pambady here was infected with rabies virus, confirmed the officials. The dog had attacked seven people including a child at Pambady area.

The dog was found dead hours after attacking the people. Earlier, the district animal husbandry department reported that the dog had shown symptoms of rabies infection.



The dog was found positive for rabies infection in its autopsy.

Velloor native Raju (64), Nisha Sunil (43), Sumi Varghese (35) her son Irin (10), Sebin (12), Ratheesh (37) and Sanand were attacked by the stray dog.

The seven people had undergone treatment at Kottayam medical college after suffering the dog bites.

The dog attacked the people on Saturday around 3 pm near Velloor junction. Later, the rabid dog was found dead.

CCTV visuals of the stray dog attacking a woman named Nisha surfaced on Sunday morning. The dog attacked her when she was heading to close the gate of her house.
