Thiruvananthapuram: QR code scanners will be installed in all residences and institutions to ensure accuracy and efficiency of solid waste management in the state. All details regarding garbage collected from each house will be recorded via QR code by the members of Haritha Karma Sena on a real-time basis. Anyone from the ward member to the Chief Minister can verify the data at any time.
The local bodies have taken up the mission to digitalise the waste management system with the support of Suchitwa Mission and Haritha Kerala Mission.
A fine will be imposed on households who refrain to co-operate with the Haritha Karma Sena members. The new system will help curb burning plastic on the premises without entrusting it to the Haritha Karma Sena workers.
In an initial phase, the project will be implemented in four corporations except Kochi and Kannur along with 59 municipalities and 313 grama panchayats. QR codes were installed in over 5 lakh houses till August.
Haritha Mitram Smart Garbage Monitoring App and other applications are currently available to monitor the operations of Haritha Karma Sena workers, avail the reports and record grievances if any.
The state government has decided to assure at least Rs 10,000 monthly wage to the Haritha Karma Sena members. The local bodies have to incur funds if the amount collected from the households turns insufficient to dispense salaries.
