Income soars with online booking of PWD guest houses

As per data till October 30, there has been an overall income of Rs 4.04 crores, without accounting food and hall fees. In the state, there are 155 rest houses with a total of 1,189 rooms.

Thiruvananthapuram: A huge rise in income has been recorded by way of bookings of guest houses of Public Works Department a year since the beginning of online booking facilities.

Online booking was made available in 148 guest houses on November 1, 2021. As per data till October 30, 2022, there has been an overall income of Rs 4.04 crores, without accounting for food and hall fees.

There are 155 guest houses, with a total of 1,189 rooms, under the PWD in the state. Non-AC rooms are charged at Rs 400 - Rs 600, AC rooms at Rs 750 - 1000 and suites at Rs Rs 1000 - Rs 2000.

A total of 53,999 people have booked rooms at the guest house during the last one year, resulting in an income of Rs 3.20 crores. Around Rs 9.6 lakhs are from bookings via officials and Rs 74 lakhs from direct bookings.

The highest number of online bookings were made in Thrissur followed by Thycaud guest house in Thiruvananthapuram.
