PWD assistant engineer arrested over death of youth on Thrippunithura bridge

Kochi: A Public Works Department assistant engineer was arrested here over the death of a youth in an accident on an incomplete bridge in Thrippunithura.

Vineetha Varghese was released on bail after recording the arrest. She is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Four officials, including Vineetha, are under suspension pending inquiry. Minister PA Mohammed Riyas ordered the action following the report submitted by the chief engineer.

The contractor and overseer were arrested on Sunday itself. They also were released on bail.

Eroor natives Vishnu and Adarsh fell into the culvert in the middle of the road, which was formed due to incomplete work of the bridge. Vishnu succumbed to the injuries and Adarsh is undergoing treatment. There was no warning sign on the road except two barrels.
