Kozhikode: P V Chandran has been elected as the Chairman of Mathrubhumi Board and M V Shreyams Kumar as the Managing Director. They were elected after Chairman and Managing Director M P Veerendra Kumar passed away recently.

P V Chandran who is currently serving as the Managing Editor will also take up the role of Chairman. Shreyams Kumar has been a member of the Mathrubhumi Board for 20 years and has been serving as the Joint Managing Director.

M P Veerendra Kumar joined as the Managing Director of Mathrubhumi in 1979 and continued in the post for 40 years. He took leave from the post for about one year after being appointed as a union minister in 1997.

P V Chandran was born as son of P V Sami and Madhavi Sami on November 23, 1939. He is the managing partner of Kerala Transport Company. He has also served as the president of Indian Newspaper Society, chairman of Kerala Regional Committee and president of Malabar Chamber of Commerce. He is the president of Kozhikode Sreekandeswara Temple and Sree Narayana Education Society. Hemalatha Chandran is his wife. Mathrubhumi Joint Managing Editor P V Nidheesh, P V Mini Rajesh, P V Seena Sajeev and P V Sajeena Vrijmohan are his children.

Shreyams Kumar was born as son of Veerendra Kumar and Usha Veerendra Kumar in Kalpetta on April 15, 1967. He had a prominent role in modernizing Mathrubhumi and strengthening the presence in the multimedia sector. He also serves as Chairman of Indian Newspaper Society Kerala Regional Committee, Global Vice President of International Advertising Association, Vice Chairperson of News Broadcasters Association and President of Kerala Television Federation (KTF). He is also the chief of Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) Kerala unit. He was elected as MLA from Kalpetta constituency in 2006 and 2011. He is the author of the travelogue 'Yathra Parayathe'. Kavitha is his wife and Mayoora, Devika, Gayathri and Rishabh are his children.
