Thrissur: The efforts to restore the train services disrupted due to the derailed goods train in Puthukkad is progressing here.The goods train has been cleared and the track restoration work is in progress, railway authorities said on Saturday.

"The derailed goods train has been cleared from Pudukad-Irinjalakuda (down line) section and now track restoration work is in progress," a Southern Railway statement said. As the restoration work is going on, several trains have been either cancelled or rescheduled, it said.

Meanwhile, nine trains were cancelled and many more services were delayed on Saturday following the incident.

Trains cancelled

Thiruvananthapuram- Shoranur Express, Shoranur- Ernakulam Memu Express, Ernakulam- Kannur Intercity, Ernakulam- Alappuzha Express, Kottayam- Nilambur Express, Ernakulam- Alappuzha Express, Kottayam- Nilambur Express, Ernakulam- Alappuzha Express, Ernakulam- Thiruvananthapuram Vanchinad Express, Thiruvananthapuram- Ernakulam Vanchinad Express and Guruvayur- Ernakulam Express Special.

Guruvayur- Thiruvananthapuram Express will carry out service only up to Ernakulam, while Kannur- Alappuzha Executive Express and Tirunelveli- Palakkad Palaruvi Express will halt services at Shoranur and Kollam respectively.

The Ernakulam-Palakkad MEMU Express would commence service from Aluva instead of Ernakulam Junction on Saturday. The train was partially cancelled between Ernakulam Junction and Aluva.

Kochuveli- Nilambur Road Express and Thiruvananthapuram- Mangalore Central Maveli Express are also delayed by an hour. Ernakulam Jn- Karaikal Express and Thiruvananthapuram- Nizamuddin Express are running late for 2 hours.

Railways expect to reinstate the traffic by noon today. The five derailed wagons have been placed back to the tracks and the repair works of the track will be completed soon.

Train services were partially affected in Ernakulam-Thrissur route since Friday after the goods train derailed near Pudukkad station.

The loco engine and four empty petrol tanker wagons of a goods train on its way to Irumpanam in Ernakulam from Mangaluru had been derailed between Puthukkad and Irinjalakuda on Friday at 1.58 pm.
