Ettumanoor: With the state government introducing the biometric punching system in government offices, the train journey between the Kottayam-Ernakulam route will become an uphill task for people travelling during the morning hours.

Travelling by Venad Express does not guarantee reaching office on time, hence they may be forced to switch to Palaruvi Express, leading to a heavy rush in train and stations.

At present, commuters rely only on Train No 06444 Kollam-Ernakulam MEMU departing Kottayam at 6:25 am and Train No. 16791 Tirunelveli-Palakkad Palaruvi Express arriving at Kottayam at 7:05 am. After Palaruvi Express departs from Kottayam, passengers need to wait an hour and a half before Venad Express reaches the station.

The rescheduling of Venad Express timings has also affected daily commuters from Kottayam. Passengers demanded the necessary intervention from the people's representatives to start the MEMU service from Kottayam.
