KK Abraham-Pulpally Co-operative Bank
Pulpally: A Congress leader from Wayanad has been detained in connection with the suicide of Rajendran Nair (60), the complainant in the Pulpally co-operative bank fraud case.
KK Abraham, KPCC general secretary and former bank president, was taken into custody for questioning on Tuesday night. He was shifted to Bathery Taluk Hospital after showing signs of dizziness.
Abraham was the bank president at the time of the alleged scam. The complainant, Pulpally resident Rajendran Nair (60), allegedly ended his life by consuming poison on Tuesday. He was found dead in a field.
Following the incident, the Congress-led administrative body of the bank has come under severe criticism.
As per the bank records, Rajendran Nair has taken a loan of Rs 25 lakhs by pledging his land. However, Rajendran had vehemently denied ever borrowing more than a meager sum of Rs 80,000 from the bank. The helpless farmer had no clue how his loan amount at the bank rose to Rs 25 lakhs.
Locals alleged that the loan in the name of the deceased farmer at the bank, has now risen to a staggering Rs 40 lakhs, including interest.
