Kalpetta: The alleged loan scam at the Pulpally Co-operative Bank has placed the former Congress-led administrative body in the spotlight of a police and vigilance investigation.

Earlier today, police took former bank secretary Rama Devi into custody hours after bringing in former bank president KK Abraham for questioning in connection to the case.

Meanwhile, former bank director TS Kurian alleged that loans were passed without the knowledge of the director board using fake signatures. At the same time, locals pointed out that Rajendran's body would be cremated only after ensuring justice for those affected by the bank fraud.

CPM is observing a protest in front of the bank from morning onwards. Police blocked a march to the house of KK Abraham in Wayanad.

Abraham and Rama Devi are taken into custody in a cheating case registered by Pulpally Police.

Meanwhile, the probe announced by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Kerala (VACB) is ongoing.

Responding to the allegation that the vigilance probe is lagging behind, DySP said they would soon submit a chargesheet in the court. Vigilance has named ten people accused in the case, with KK Abraham as the prime accused.

As per the records at the bank, Rajendran borrowed a loan of Rs 25 lakh by mortgaging his land in 2017 and now had arrears of nearly Rs 40 lakh, including interest. However, he claimed he only took Rs 80,000 as a loan from the bank.
