Kochi: Quashing the Kerala Administrative Tribunal’s (KAT) order to extend the Last Grade Servants (LGS) rank list of Kerala PSC, the High Court on Tuesday observed that there is no need to extend the validity of rank lists. The court issued the order while considering the plea of Kerala PSC against the KAT order to extend the validity of the Last Grade Servants (LGS) rank list. The court observed that the KAT order is not legally valid and PSC’s stances are valid in this regard.
The court urged the heads of all departments in all districts to report LGS vacancies immediately to PSC and also directed to report LGS vacancies in the directorates too. Directions were also given to finish the procedures for appointment faster. The court pronounced the verdict after pointing out the lapses in the KAT order. However, the court directed the tribunal to consider further petitions in this regard once vacancies are reported.
PSC filed the petition requesting to annul the order of the tribunal by citing that it will cause to lose opportunities of new candidates. The validity of LGS rank lists will expire on August 4 and the Tribunal wanted to extend it till September 29.
KAT verdict was not legally valid, asserted a PSC meeting before and it was then they decided to approach the court. The court also observed that the KAT order is a violation of earlier orders of higher courts. Extending the validity of a single rank list was also termed illogical and unacceptable by PSC.
