Public prosecutor slams special prosecutor over Walayar rape case
Palakkad: In connection with the Walayar rape case, where the court let off the accused, public prosecutor Vinod Kayanat has come out criticising special prosecutor Latha Jayaraj.
In a Facebook post, Vinod said that if the special prosecutor remains silent, the accused will receive benefit of doubt. In such a situation, there is no point in blaming the council of the accused.
Vinod added that to understand how a prosecutor should go about a case, he or she should be a good lawyer first and foremost.
Meanwhile, the CPM came out distancing itself from the accused. CPM Pudussery area secretary Subhas Chandrabose said that the accused has no links with the party. He added that CPM did not intervene in the investigation in any way.
He was responding to allegations raised by the mother of the minor victims that the accused had links with the ruling party.
Meanwhile, minister K. K. Shailaja said there was nothing wrong in making Rajesh, advocate of the accused, the C.W.C chairman. This matter was checked earlier, she added.
