PT Thomas stands firm on allegations raised against Kitex
Kochi: MLA PT Thomas said that he does not want Rs 50 crore which he was offered to give evidence against the Kitex company. He had alleged that they are polluting Kadambra river by depositing waste from the company and Kitex was closed down in Tirupur after the court intervention. The MLA raised the allegation in the assembly.
Reacting to this, Kitex MD Sabu Jacob had challenged the MLA to provide evidence to prove his allegations within 7 days. He also offered Rs 50 crore for the MLA if he could prove it. Otherwise, PT Thomas should tonsure his head and resign his MLA post, Sabu Jacob had challenged.
PT Thomas responded to this saying the company should not belittle the issue of drinking water and environment by offering Rs 50 crore. He offered the amount through wrong means and I do not want it, PT Thomas made it clear in a press meet.
However, the MLA did not withdraw his allegations. Even after 13 years, Kitex has not set up zero liquid discharge system and Kadambra river, which is the source of drinking water for over 10 lakh people, is highly polluted by them. This is clear from the reaction of Pollution Control Board, the MLA pointed out.
I started reacting against the company before the election. so, they fielded a candidate against me to take revenge. But now they claim that I am taking revenge on them as they fielded candidate against me. But the only thing I demand is that the company should act according to the law, PT Thomas added.
