Thiruvananthapuram: After a small interval, the PSC rank holders has resumed the protest in front of the secretariat against the unannounced ban on fresh appointments. The candidates resumed the strike as 493 PSC rank lists will expire on August 4. The protesters intend to protest against the government's stand that the validity of the rank lists cannot be extended.
Those included in the ranklists of women police, high school teachers and last grade posts are taking part in the strike now. They want the agreement, which was signed before the election to settle the previous strike, to be implemented soon.
With the expiration of the rank lists on August 4, the state is on the brink of freezing appointments. In the absence of new rank lists, there will be no appointments this year unless the validity of the existing lists is extended. With this, more than 1.5 lakh job seekers will be in trouble.
The PSC will not conduct any examinations immediately for the preparation of new rank lists as the pandemic persists. Protesters request to extend the validity for six months until a new exam is held and a rank list is prepared. There are no new rank lists for the posts of LDD, Last Grade Assistant and Secretariat Assistant. They hope that the government will change its decision as there are many who have crossed the age limit and are no longer eligible to appear for new exams.
According to the new reforms of the PSC, examinations for SSLC, Plus Two and Degree based posts will be conducted in two stages. If so, it will take a longer time to replace the rank lists that will be cancelled on August 4 with new ones.
There are currently no significant appointments being done in the state. The government points out that the pandemic situation is the reason why appointments are not made from the current list. The PSC does not conduct new examinations for the same reason. But job seekers are only asking for six months as the pandemic was not caused by them.
