Eramangalam (Malappuram): Clashes erupted in a protest march conducted by KSU district committee to the residence of PSC chairman Adv M K Sakeer against the suicide of a PSC rank holder the other day. Following this, about 20 people, including KSU state president K M Abhijith, district president Haris Muthoor and KPCC member Adv Sivaraman Ponnani were injured.

The protest march took place on Monday afternoon. When it was 200 metres away from the PSC chairman's residence, police team headed by Perumbadappu SHO Althafali and Changaramkulam SHO Basheer Chirakkal blocked them. With this, clashes erupted between the police and the protesters. Police lathi-charged to disburse them.

KSU workers alleged that the police merely beat up the protesters. KSU district leaders T P Ashad, Hakeem Perumukku, Niyas Kodor, Jaseel, Abdurahiman, Shibil Maranchery, Asif Pookkarathara, Muhammed Ajmal, Ijas and Jayadev sustained injuries.

Among them, Sivaraman Ponnani, Haris Muthoor and Shibil were seriously injured. Some police officers also sustained injuries in the lathi charge. The injured were rushed to private hospitals in Perumbadappu and Edappal.
