Dental deformity: PSC denies beat officer job to tribal youth

Palakkad: A tribal youth criticised the Public Service Commission of denying him job due to his buck teeth. The complainant Attappadi native Muthu lost the job as beat officer in the forest department though he qualified the written and physical tests conducted for the post.

Muthu had submitted application for the post of beat forest officer as per the special recruitment procedures of the Public Service Commission. He qualified in the written examination conducted on November 3 and later qualified the physical efficiency test also. However, he did not receive the letter for interview. When enquired at the district PSC office in Palakkad, the officials informed that his buck teeth recorded in the medical certificate resulted in the loss of job.

Muthu said that at least Rs 18000 will be needed to correct his teeth. He could not correct it due to poverty.

Minister for the Welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities and Youth Affairs K Radhakrishnan and Minister for Forests AK Saseendran have assured to redress the complaint and take necessary action.
