Congress MLA and Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil on Wednesday took to Facebook and lauded the efforts taken by the youth organisation’s initiative--Youth Care. It came as a veiled reply to his party veteran Ramesh Chennithala, who in the earlier hours of the day, said Youth Care “failed to provide the 'care' we envisioned” and urged Youth Congress workers to be more engaged in regional issues.

According to Shafi, he is proud of Youth Care and Youth Congress workers who tirelessly work for it without any support from state machinery. He highlighted Youth Care’s two major causes-care and agitation, in his Facebook post.

Ramesh Chennithala praised various social and welfare activities conducted by DYFI. Speaking at a Youth Congress event in Kasaragod, Chennithala criticized his party's youth wing by drawing the example of activities undertaken by CPM-backed DYFI.

"We started 'Youth Care' during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we failed to provide the 'care' we envisioned. At the same time, DYFI conducted various activities during the period. They have been undertaking a noon meal scheme at Medical College for the past several years," he said. He called for Youth Congress workers to be more engaged in regional issues.

Meanwhile, Shafi’s response to Chennithala also comes months after the former was criticised at an education camp organised by the Youth Congress in Adoor. The criticism was that when protests were going on in Thiruvananthapuram against the illegal appointments at the corporation, Shafi was in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup, along with the Youth Congress general secretary. Reports also suggest his equation with Congress leadership is not so good.
