Protest intensify against construction of STP in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A move by the Kozhikode Corporation to construct a sewage treatment plant (STP) met with the fury of protests from locals on Thursday. Protestors clashed with police after the authorities resumed construction of a compound wall in the area as part of the proposed STP in Kothi.

On Thursday morning, locals, including women, obstructed the road near the area where the construction works are ongoing. However, the protest intensified after authorities arrived in the area along with workers to resume construction. The police arrested the protestors.

A few days back, the Kozhikode Corporation resumed construction works here after receiving a favourable verdict from the court.

Samara Samithi members said that hartal would be observed in the coming hours for police arresting protestors, including a woman. Meanwhile, the visuals of a child kneeling beside his protesting mother and crying went viral on social media.
