Protest at History Congress venue: Governor summons V-C of Kannur University
Kannur: In connection with the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) staged at the venue of Indian History Congress held at Kannur University, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan summoned the university vice chancellor.
The governor has asked Vice Chancellor Prof. Gopinath Raveendran to arrive at Kannur guest house along with complete CCTV footage of the event. The governor added that he did not intend to make controversial remarks and that the History Congress expressed complete intolerance.
The protest was staged at the inauguration of the 80th Indian History Congress held at Kannur University on Saturday. "You have every right to protest. But you cannot shout me down", the governor said repeatedly as some of the delegates, sitting in front, protested inside the auditorium.
The governor started the speech saying it is a stage to speak about history and not politics. However, he indirectly opposed the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and this resulted in the audience going wild.
