Kozhikode: A day after the protest against a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Kothi here, Chemmangad Police have registered a case against Samara Samithi members for allegedly using children in the agitation.
The Samara Samithi members are booked for alleged violations of the Juvenile Justice Act. The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) issued an order prohibiting the participation of children in protests, an official said.
On Thursday morning, locals obstructed the road near the area where the construction works are ongoing. The situation escalated as authorities arrived in the area along with workers to resume the construction of a compound wall as part of the proposed STP. As the protest escalated, police rushed to the spot and arrested the protestors.
A few days back, the Kozhikode Corporation resumed construction works here after court issued a verdict allowing the work.
