Kochi: More evidences proving the connections of gold smuggling case conspirator Faisal Fareed with film industry have come to light. Faisal had acted in the Malayalam movie 'God's Own Country' released in 2014 in which Fahadh Faasil played the lead. He had acted as an Arab cop in a scene shot in Sharjah.
The movie director wanted two young men with Arab facial features to play the role of Arab police officers. Meanwhile, director Vasudevan Sanal told Mathrubhumi News that he came to know that the role was played by Faisal Fareed only now. He added that he does not even remember the face of Faisal.
It is learnt that Faisal had been trying to get roles in Malayalam movies shot in Gulf countries since 2014. He developed many contacts in this way. The probe team is investigating if he had used the connection in film industry for gold smuggling.
The probe team will also try to find out how Faisal managed to develop his contacts from appearing in one scene of a movie to investing in production. Though there were reports that Faisal had invested money in Malayalam film industry, nothing in this regard has been confirmed yet.
