Prohibitory orders extended till January 5

Pathanamthitta: District collector extended the prohibitory orders under section 144 in and around Sabarimala till January 5. After the Mandala Pooja on December 27, the temple nada was closed and will open on December 30 at 5 in the evening for Makaravillaku season. The district collector P B Nooh said that the prohibitory orders were extended taking the present situation in Sabarimala.

Section 144 is presently enforced at Ilavukkal, Nilakkal, Pamba and Sannidhanam and has been extended in only these places till January 5. The district police chief’s report anticipating trouble in the place and the law and order issues were considered while extending the orders for one more week.

The curfew prohibits the assembly of over four people in the area. However, the orders will not prevent devotees from having darshan or chanting saranam chants.
