Procedures not followed; relatives of Maoists demand fresh autopsy
Thrissur: The family members of Maoists who were killed in an encounter inside Manjakkandi forests in Palakkad have demanded a re-postmortem of the bodies. The relatives of Manikavasakam and Karti have demanded fresh autopsy.
Karti’s mother Meena and sister Vasanthi told media that procedures were not followed before conducting inquest. They alleged that they were not allowed to identify the body.
Relatives of Manikavasakam and Karti petitioned the district collector seeking re-postmortem of the bodies. The relatives clarified that they will not accept the bodies unless procedures are followed correctly.
Maoists identified as Manikavasakam, Rema, Karti and Aravind were killed in an encounter on Monday. Their bodies were brought to Thrissur medical college for postmortem on Tuesday night.
Doctors recovered five bullets from Rema’s body. She had sustained bullet injuries on her head as well.
The postmortem is taking place according to the National Human Rights Commission’s stipulations. The whole procedure will be video recorded.
