Kochi: The Kerala High Court here on Friday extended the order freezing the appointment of Priya Varghese in the post of Malayalam Associate Professor at Kannur University. As per the HC directive, the order freezing the appointment will remain in force till October 20. The University Grants Commission also filed documents at the court which elucidated that the period of research could not be considered a teaching experience.
UGC Education Officer from Delhi submitted an affidavit at the High Court stating that Priya Varghese is ineligible for the appointment.
If the research period and the experience as the students’ service director is omitted, Priya Varghese will have an experience of only three and a half years as alleged by the complainant, noted UGC. Court has granted time for Priya Varghese to file a counter affidavit.
Joseph Zachariah, who obtained the second rank in the interview conducted by the Kannur University for the post of Malayalam Associate Professor had approached the court requesting to scrap the appointment of Priya Varghese and revise the rank list. He alleged that Priya Varghese has no teaching experience of 8 years, which is mandatory to apply for the post.
