Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala governor Arif Mohammad Khan will inform on Tuesday his decision regarding the complaint alleging discrepancies in the first rank bestowed by the Kannur University to Priya Varghese for the appointment as associate professor in the Malayalam department. The vice chancellor had given an explanation on the appointment following a controversy citing ineligibility of Priya Varghese for the post as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Governor intervened in the appointment procedures of Priya Varghese, who is the wife of Chief Minister’s private secretary KK Rakesh, by considering the complaint lodged by Save University Forum. The complainant alleged that Priya Varghese has no sufficient teaching experience required as per the UGC guidelines.
The governor has sought legal advice over the report submitted by the VC. The VC is likely to face severe action if the governor inferred any irregularities in the interview and mark list issued for the appointment of associate professor. Otherwise, the governor may consider the possibility of an independent probe over the issue.
