Thiruvananthapuram: The private bus operators in the state are planning to launch an indefinite strike from the first week of January citing hike in diesel price.
A section of operators had met Transport Minister A K Saseendran on Tuesday with a set of demands.
They wanted the minimum fare to be raised to Rs 9, kilometre charge be raised from 64 paise to 70 paise and fix students ticket fare at Rs 5.
They pointed out that the diesel price has gone up by Rs 6 per litre since the last fare hike.
This apart, the remuneration of staff and cost of spare parts too have increased manifold.
However, the minister told them that the topic of fare hike cannot be taken up for decision for time being and stood firm on his stance.
