Mukkam: A 34-year-old pregnant woman, who arrived for medical care at a private hospital in Agastiamuzhi in Kozhikode, tested positive for COVID-19. Following the infection, her unborn baby died on Tuesday morning.

The woman, a native of Mangapoyil, arrived at the private hospital Monday midnight.

In the COVID test conducted here, the woman tested positive. On Tuesday morning, the doctors declared the unborn baby dead. Following this, the woman was shifted to Kozhikode Govt. Medical College.

It is reported that the woman, who was on rest only left the house for medical care two weeks ago. She had not visited any other place during this period.

As the source of her infection is not identified yet, the health department directed her family members and others who were in contact with the family to undergo quarantine.

The woman’s husband runs a grocery shop. It is reported that only he had gone outside of the house these days.

"The husband also visited a mosque on Bakrid day. The municipal authority issued directions to temporarily close down this mosque,” said Mukkom municipal secretary.

All staff and patients who were present at the hospital when the woman arrived here will be placed under quarantine. Details of people who came into contact with the patient are being collected, informed the municipal secretary.
