Kannur: A woman was killed after flames engulfed her while burning heap of dry leaves at the house premises in the Kottiyoor region here. The deceased is Ponnama, a native of Cheppamala.
The tragedy happened while she was in her pursuit to avert fire mishaps. The region had been witnessing fires due to soaring temperatures. In many areas fire erupted in dry shrubs and consumed vegetation. To avoid this, she reportedly attempted to burn dry leaves separately.
However, the flames from the heap were high. The woman along with locals tried to extinguish it and the mishap occurred amid this. Though onlookers tried to save her, their efforts went in vain.
