Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission is set to announce a power tariff increase in the state by mid-June. Following the public hearing held on Monday, the commission has requested the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to provide their response to the feedback received by Friday.
The Commission had sought public opinions on their proposal to implement a phased power tariff hike over the course of the next four years. During the final public hearing on Monday, consumers strongly opposed the tariff increase. In response, the Federation of Residents Association organized a protest outside the venue, urging the commission not to approve the hike.
Regulatory commission chairman TK Jose, members B Pradeep and Adv AJ Wilson attended the public hearing. The board has proposed an increase of at least 6.19 per cent in all sectors. By expecting an additional revenue of Rs 2381 crore, KSEB has suggested a hike of 8.94 per cent and 7.75 per cent in tariff on the domestic and large scale commercial consumers, respectively.
The organisation for aided schools demanded to provide electricity at the same rate granted for government schools.
