Postpone festival, don’t let devotees inside temple; Sabarimala Thantri writes to TDB

With the number of coronavirus patients on the rise, allowing devotees inside the temple could lead to disease transmission, he pointed out.

Pathanamthitta: The Sabarimala Thanthri has written a letter to the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) requesting to postpone a festival and not allow devotees inside the temple for monthly pooja.

With the number of coronavirus patients on the rise, allowing devotees inside the temple could lead to disease transmission, he pointed out.

Thantri Kandaru Mohanaru wrote to the TDB commissioner expressing his concerns. Earlier, It was decided to open Sabarimala temple for monthly poojas and the festival. However, the Thantri has now asked for them to be postponed.

In the letter, the Thantri mentioned that devotees should not be given entry into the temple for monthly poojas. Festivals will have to be postponed. If any person taking part in the festival is COVID-19 positive, all those who are associated with the temple will have to go into quarantine and the rituals could not be completed as per tradition. Moreover, under the current circumstances, allowing devotees inside the temple could lead to disease transmission, he pointed out.

The Travancore Devaswom Board had decided to shift the temple festival, originally scheduled to be held in March, to June as the government decided to reopen places of worship. The TDB President had stated last week that they intend to move forward with the decision.
