Pathanamthitta: The police have registered a case for incitement to violence into the incident wherein posters against Health Minister Veena George appeared on the premises of some Orthodox churches in Pathanamthitta. Reportedly, an FIR has been registered on the complaint lodged by Sohil V Simon, a native of Kumbazha.
Earlier, huge protests had erupted after the police seized the vehicle of Abel Babu, a Youth Congress activist, in connection with the incident. The car was seized by a team of policemen led by Pathanamthitta DySP after 11 pm on Saturday. As per reports, the police took the action on the basis of CCTV footage from the area.
The posters opposing the state government's proposed bill relating to the Malankara Church, which specifically called out the Health Minister to end her silence, were spotted near the premises of an orthodox church in Pathanamthitta. They urged Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to ensure justice.
Last month, the Orthodox Church had expressed their opposition to the Kerala government's proposal to introduce a bill in the assembly that would end the ongoing tussle between the Jacobite and Orthodox factions of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Kerala.
The proposed bill, drafted by the Kerala Law Reforms Commission headed by former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas, would grant control of the churches to the Orthodox faction, while allowing Jacobites to continue conducting worship and prayers.
