Popular Chengannur-Kollam KSRTC services disrupted due to insufficient staff


Chengannur-Kollam chain services had begun in 2015 after a court order. In short time, the services gained popularity and earned good profit.

Chengannur: One of the convenient LS and Ordinary services of KSRTC for public between Chengannur and Kollam was disrupted due to shortage of staff. There are complaints that the services got delayed for up to two hours and this has affected the daily travellers.

KSRTC conducts services between these two destinations at an interval of 20 minutes. The first trip of the day starts at 4.30 am and the last trip ends at 8.10 pm. The corporation has justified the failure due to insufficient staff to operate buses. Only 19 have come to Chengannur depot which had dismissed 66 empanelled employees. However, there is demand to appoint sufficient staff for the smooth functioning of the depot and services.

The Chengannur-Kollam chain services began in 2015 after a court order. During a short time, the services gained popularity and earned good profit. Limited stop services which reach Kollam within 2 hours attracts passengers. The disruption occurred when the services were functioning profitably.

Earlier, Chengannur and Kollam depots deployed 5 buses each to conduct services at a frequency of half an hour. Later the depots increased the number of buses to 7 reducing the frequency of services to 20 minutes. However, the 46 services have now decreased to half.
