Poochakkal accident: Driver arrested; CM assures strict action
Poochakkal: In connection with the accident in which six persons including four students were injured after being hit with a car, Assam native Anand Muttayi was arrested here. He admitted to police that he was driving the car and he was drunk. The police have imposed on him IPC Section 308 for attempt to commit culpable homicide, Motor Vehicle Act Section 185 for drunken driving and Section 188 for abetment of offences.
Poochakkal SI K J Jacob said that witness statement to prove this is available. He was remanded after producing before the magistrate. However, scientific evidences are required to prove that he was drunk while driving. Forensic examination and other means will be applied for this purpose.
Strict action to be taken: CM
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed to take stringent action in connection with the Poochakkal accident. He added that the students had a narrow escape.
MLA Shanimol Usman had asked for action in the incident. She also said that the driver was in inebriated state while driving. She also demanded government’s aid for the students’ treatment. The chief minister assured that it will be considered.
Students to undergo surgery
All four girl students who were injured in the accident will have to undergo surgery on their legs. K S Chandana, daughter of Panavalli native Chandrababu, fractured her thigh bone in the mishap and is hospitalised at Kalamassery Medical College. Doctors said that the surgery should be performed in four days. She also has sustained fractures on nose.
Sagi, daughter of Panavalli native Sabu, is admitted in Ernakulam Lissie Hospital. Both her thighs are fractured and surgery is fixed on Friday. Anagha, daughter of Panavalli native Chandran, sustained fracture on the thigh of her right leg and she underwent a surgery on Wednesday. She is admitted in Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital.
Archana, daughter of Thaikkattussery native Anirudhan, had a surgery on her left leg at Ernakulam Loord Hospital. She was hit by the car when she was coming on her bicycle after exam. Meanwhile, the parents of the students remitted the amount for treatment at hospitals. The MP and MLA had announced that the expense for their treatment will be handled by the government.
