Attukal Pongala on March 7; Festivities to begin on Feb 27

Thiruvananthapuram: The Pongala festival at the Attukal Bhagavathy temple will begin on February 27. The Attukal Pongala will be held on March 7. For the past two years, the Pongala ritual was performed only at the temple and at homes of devotees due to the pandemic. This year, arrangements have been made to perform the ritual in the traditional way.

The Pongala festival celebrations will begin at 4:30 am on February 27. Actor Unni Mukundan will inaugurate the cultural programmes at 6:30 pm. The Kuthiyottam ritual for boys will begin on March 1.

The Attukal Pongala with ‘aduppuvettu’ will begin at 10:30 am on March 7. Pongala offering will be at 2:30 pm.

The procession to the Manacuad Sastha temple will return to Attukal at 8 am on March 8. The Pongala festival will end with ‘Kuruthitharppanam’.
