Kochi: The high court on Friday rejected the petition filed by T O Sooraj to quash the FIR against him in the Palarivattom flyover scam case. The HC dismissed the petition saying that the corruption case would stand and will not be dismissed. In the petition, Sooraj stated that under the new amendment in the Prevention of Corruption Act, an FIR can be registered and a case can be taken only with the permission of the state government.
Sooraj claimed that permission of the state government was not taken before filing the FIR. Meanwhile, the approach was made in the wake of vigilance submitting the charge sheet for legal advice. With the high court dismissing the petition, the corruption case is pending against him in the court.
Vigilance took a strong stand against the arguments raised in Sooraj’s petition. The state government told the court that there is strong evidence against Sooraj and he was involved in the scam since its inception. The High Court rejected Sooraj's plea after agreeing on this.
